Software
for Professionals
If you are looking for psychological, professional-development, and mental health-related
computer software, this is the place to start!
*Please note that all product descriptions are based on manufacturers' information. Any software
that has been reviewed by Psychwatch or a Psychwatch correspondent will say so.
Professional & Clinical Software:
Client Notes -
The Client Notes software keeps records of each client a counsellor works with, including session notes and personal data, in a secure database system adaptable for individual counsellors or organisations. It also produces reports of session attendance information and other statistics useful for research and funding applications.
Clinical Planner
- a program that generates treatment plans based on DSM diagnoses.
Clinical
Record Keeper - simple, user-friendly clinical
record keeping program for clinicians.
E-Z Writer -
a computer-assisted report-writing program for professionals. Enables
users to capture and readily retrieve their own report-writing language
and style, as opposed to using "canned" text written by others.
It also interacts seamlessly with many word processors, and allows both
word processing and database retrieval on a single screen.
Hartje-Biofeedback - Biofeedback systems software, clinical
and management software. Also, training programs.
JCP Software - Composition software for outpatient treatment records and clinical psychological reports. A
free trial download is available.
Psychwrite - helps mental health professionals perform the task of record
keeping, assists in all aspects of business development, and aids in increasing referrals from Preferred Provider
Organizations, Employee Assistance Programs and managed care contractors. Also lets you download a free demo
version.
ROanalyzer 4.0
- New software that helps in the interpretation of the Rorschach. A limited
trial version is available for free download.
Therapist Helper - a practice management software program. It processes
patient and insurance billing transactions, accounts receivable, statements, and tracks payments. Psychwatch found
this program easy to use, with excellent help resources, and to be worth a look for those of you trying to manage
your own offices.
Educational Software:
Laboratory in Cognition & Perception v3 - program for a
modern psychology laboratory course. "Contains 20 experimental paradigms which enable students to replicate
important experiments and to modify them in hundreds of ways with no programming whatsoever." Allows a 30-day
free trial download.
PsychMate
- the next generation of educational tools for undergraduate psychology
instruction. PsychMate is designed to provide a means for exposing students
to over 22 classic and current experiments in psychology, as well as
teaching students about research methods and data collection. PsychMate
is a client-server application using the Internet for data submission
and retrieval.
Statistical Software:
Amos - A structural equation modeling program. You can read up
on what it does more specifically at the page, and you can download a free student version to sample it...
Assistat for Windows - developed specially for psychologists
and educational researchers. It has 80 formulas and applications that usually aren't available in standard packages
without special programming, and it could be a great learning aid for students in measurement & statistics
courses. A free demo also can be downloaded from this site.
Ecstatic - A statistical software package that supposedly
does all the tricks (ANOVA's w/ repeated measures, non-parametric equations, multiple regressions, etc). You can
download a free, fully-working demo version, and it only takes up 2mb's on your hard drive. We'll give you
a critique when we get the chance to look at it ourselves, but in the meantime, if you have comments about it,
let us know, so Psychwatch can summarize for our readers...
Modstat
- an inexpensive yet powerful stats package, that reportedly is on par
with SPSS. Worth a peek, for only $22.
Power Analysis -
(reviewed by Psychwatch). Being driven crazy with power analysis? Still having trouble deciphering Cohen?
You may want to try GPower, a free, easily downloadable power analysis program. It allows calculations for
effect sizes, n, different alphas, etc., for several different statistical tests, including t-tests, multiple regression,
and ANOVA's. We both used it for our dissertations. Worth a look!
Raynald's
SPSS Tools - tips, macros, scripts, and FAQs for new and advanced
users of the SPSS program.
SPSS - makers of
SPSS and Systat, you can purchase these and other statistical programs
online. You can also get free trial downloads of stat programs.
Statistics
on the Web: Statistical Software - provides a more comprehensive
listing of types of statistical software available over the net, and
links to those sites. Too many to list here, but if you are looking
for something more in-depth or specific, you might consider taking a
peek..
